What is $BGB

While originally known as a prominent exchange utility token, $BGB has recently evolved into a powerhouse of decentralized innovation—acting as the primary network gas and governance lifeblood for Morph

Coins.ph has officially welcomed $BGB to its platform, opening up fresh opportunities for Filipino traders and Web3 enthusiasts alike. While originally known as a prominent exchange utility token, $BGB has recently evolved into a powerhouse of decentralized innovation—acting as the primary network gas and governance lifeblood for Morph, a highly scalable, payment-centric Layer-2 blockchain. Whether you are looking to diversify your portfolio via Coins Convert or jump straight into the order books on Coins Spot, understanding the unique mechanics behind $BGB is your first step to unlocking its full potential.

Summary of ProjectBGB is the native asset of the Morph chain, the blockchain that powers Morph Payments, a stablecoin payment platform that lets businesses accept and send stablecoins anywhere in the world. While customers and businesses transact in stablecoins like USDC and USDT, BGB works underneath as the chain's gas, governance, and ecosystem incentive token.

Locked Foundation tokens release at a capped 2 percent monthly rate, and quarterly burns reduce total supply based on real network usage, reinforcing a direct relationship between ecosystem growth and token scarcity.

History of $BGB
$BGB launched in 2021 as the platform token for the Bitget exchange, originally issued as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. In December 2024, Bitget merged the Bitget Wallet Token (BWB) into $BGB to create a single unified ecosystem token, and completed its first major burn of 800 million tokens, reducing total supply from 2 billion to 1.2 billion.

In September 2025, $BGB entered its most significant chapter yet. Bitget transferred all BGB tokens that it controled (440 million) to the Morph Foundation, with 220 million burned immediately and the remaining 220 million locked with gradual release to support ecosystem growth.

$BGB became the native gas and governance token of Morph, a payment-optimized Ethereum based network. In February 2026, Morph integrated Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol as the exclusive cross-chain issuance and transfer mechanism for BGB, giving the token an institutional-grade cross-chain foundation.

What is the project goal of $BGB
$BGB exists to power money that moves at the speed of life. Morph's mission is to build the decentralized settlement layer for global payments, giving businesses a faster, cheaper way to move money than slow and expensive banking rails. Most crypto payment platforms run on top of someone else's blockchain.

Morph built its own, designed specifically for payments, delivering 10,000 TPS throughput, 0.3 second finality, and transaction costs of around $0.003. $BGB supports this mission through its functions in gas, governance, and growing utility across the ecosystem, creating long-term alignment between real usage and value rather than speculation.

What are the different projects under the $BGB ecosystem?
The $BGB ecosystem centers on the Morph chain and the full payment stack built on top of it. Morph Payments provides hosted checkout, payment links, batch payouts, fiat conversion, and a single dashboard and API, serving use cases from cross-border e-commerce, B2B payments, SaaS subscriptions and global payroll.

Morph is also building for agentic payments, enabling AI agents to send and receive payments autonomously through x402 and MCP. On the token side, native $BGB staking is already live on Morph, letting holders earn yield directly on $BGB's home chain, and DeFi utility is set to expand further. Beyond the network, $BGB remains a multi-ecosystem token across Morph, Bitget, and Bitget Wallet, giving it reach across more than 120 million users.

What is $BGB? What are its use cases?
$BGB is the core gas, governance, and settlement token of the Morph chain. With the Viridian upgrade and support for EIP-7702, $BGB serves as native gas on the network, one of the first ERC-20 tokens to fill that role, creating demand tied directly to real activity.

Holders can stake $BGB natively on Morph for yield, with expanding DeFi utility as the ecosystem matures. Every quarter, a portion of $BGB is burned based on how much the network is actually used. The more payments flow through Morph, the more supply is removed, permanently.

What sets $BGB apart from other Web3 projects?
Three things distinguish $BGB. First, a sharp focus on payments, the biggest real-world opportunity in crypto, backed by top-tier infrastructure. $BGB is the native token of Morph, a chain designed from the ground up for payments, with fast finality and near-zero transaction costs, and the Morph Payments platform on top, giving businesses stablecoin checkout, payouts, and fiat conversion with enterprise-grade compliance.

Second, $BGB benefits from a large and growing ecosystem. As a multi-ecosystem token across Morph, Bitget, and Bitget Wallet, it has reach across more than 120 million users, a distribution advantage few tokens can match.

Third, $BGB has a deflationary supply. More than half of the original 2 billion tokens have been permanently burned, and every quarter more is removed based on real network usage, with all burns verifiable onchain. The more the network grows, the scarcer $BGB becomes.

What can we expect from $BGB this 2026 and the upcoming years?
Looking further ahead, expect $BGB's utility to expand into DeFi, listings on exchanges to improve liquidity and global accessibility, and Morph Payments scaling across merchant payments, payouts, and agentic commerce. The more the network is used, the more $BGB is burned, so every step of that growth feeds directly into long-term scarcity.
